Prana: The Breath of Life and How to Live it Fully

with Philip O'Donohoe and Neil Douglas-Klotz

Prana, chi, hayy, orgone, life force—throughout human history, people have searched for the secret of vitality, health and energy.

Over the ages, spiritual traditions and certain branches of body-oriented psychology developed practices and techniques to access the energy present throughout nature and the cosmos. During this weekend, we take time out from our usual routine to remember our connection to life force as we share active practice--relating to each other face to face, heart to heart.

Swami Sivananda has said, “Prana is related to the mind, through the mind to the sankalpa Shakti, or willpower, through the willpower to the individual soul and through the individual soul to the supreme being. When the breath is directed by the mind, under the control of the will wonders can be achieved in all spheres of life from personality development to healing as well as spiritual experience.”

In this workshop, we will dive deeply into the arts and sciences of life energy—focusing on our breathing, body awareness, meditation, movement and our hearts. Our companions will be the Dances of Universal Peace, Sufi zikr, walking meditation along with practices selected from the Buddhist, Tantric and Yogic traditions, world spirituality and holistic psychology.

"Sometimes it becomes a question as to how to increase life in order to bring perfection. There is way of breath, way of heart, way of silence, way of music, way of contemplation, and by many other ways that humanity has been raised from imperfection to perfection.... The teacher strives to heal the pupil's heart and this healing of heart is far more than an ordinary healing. It leads to the increased capacity for life in the heart.... This spiritual attunement may reach to the very depths of one's being, and may expand to the universe."
--Murshid Samuel L. Lewis
